The Story of Dublin
By D. A. Chart, M.A. Illustrated by Henry J. Howard. (J. M. Dent & Co., London. 1907).
This is a fine introduction to the history of the centre of Dublin (the final chapters deal briefly with the outer areas). Chart is an entertaining writer who, within the set boundaries of his task, shows much humour. Even though 90 odd years have passed since it was published this is a man I would like to spend an evening with - preferably in a pub.
History without pain and the odd laugh.
